Google is finally preparing to enter the hardware tracking market with the introduction of the Google Pixel Tag. While the company has already laid the groundwork through its Find My Device network on Android, it has lacked a dedicated first party device to compete directly with Apple’s AirTags. Recent leaks from 9to5Google have brought this missing piece into focus, revealing not only online listings for the device but also an initial image of what the tracker looks like.
Departing from the standard circular or square designs seen in most competitors, the Pixel Tag features a distinct oblong shape. It bears some resemblance to Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag, though it appears taller and mirrors the form factor of a Fitbit Air without its strap. Interestingly, the device doesn’t seem to have a built-in way to attach it to objects, suggesting that users will need to purchase separate cases or keyrings to keep their tags secure. Early listings identify the product under model number GA12506 and highlight a specific color option called Fog Light.
According to translated marketing descriptions appearing online, the Pixel Tag is designed as a compact and durable tool for locating misplaced keys, wallets, or luggage. It leverages Google’s expansive Find My Device ecosystem to provide precise location data via a smartphone and includes a built-in speaker to help users find their items by sound when they are close by. Details regarding whether the tag uses ultra wideband technology or offers a rechargeable battery remain unknown at this stage.
Timing suggests that this new accessory could be unveiled alongside the upcoming Pixel 11 launch scheduled for August 12. Although late leaks often signal an imminent reveal, there is still no official confirmation on exactly when consumers will be able to buy them. If launched as expected, it would mark a significant step in Google rounding out its ecosystem of accessories for Android power users.
