OpenAI announced today that it is expanding access to ChatGPT Health, making the specialized tool available to all United States users aged 18 and older regardless of their subscription plan. The move follows a period of limited testing that began in January through a dedicated hub where users could sync data from platforms like Apple Health, MyFitnessPal, and various hospital systems including Epic and Oracle Health. According to the company, public interest in AI driven wellness guidance has surged, with weekly health related queries climbing from 230 million to 300 million since the initial trials.
In a significant shift from previous restrictions, users are no longer required to use a specific health hub for their questions. Instead, they can now draw insights from their connected medical records directly within the general chat interface. This update comes after OpenAI discovered that seventy percent of health inquiries were already happening outside the designated area. By integrating personal data into standard conversations, users can more easily ask about dietary needs or allergy concerns while interacting with the bot in its normal mode.
The rollout arrives at a tense moment for the company, coming just one day after a Florida pastor filed a lawsuit alleging that the AI provided dangerous medical advice that nearly proved fatal. In response to such risks, OpenAI emphasized that its tools are not intended for diagnosing or treating medical conditions and urged users to verify all information with licensed professionals. While the company claims its newest model, GPT 5.6 Luna, shows improved accuracy on internal benchmarks and ensures that private user data isn’t used for training, critics continue to warn against relying on chatbots for critical healthcare decisions.
Despite ongoing skepticism regarding the reliability of artificial intelligence in medicine, OpenAI joins competitors like Google and Anthropic in pushing deeper into the health sector. The company stated it is actively collaborating with physicians to refine its responses and make medicinal answers safer over time. For those living in the US, ChatGPT Health will become available throughout this week for logged in users across web and iOS platforms using free or paid accounts.
