With Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro lineup and its first-ever foldable iPhone less than two months from being unveiled, the rumor mill has been working overtime. The standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and iPhone Air 2 are expected to follow in spring 2027 under Apple’s new split-launch strategy, giving fans plenty to chew on between now and next year. After sorting through months of leaks, supply chain reports, and analyst predictions, a clearer picture is emerging of what’s almost certainly coming, what might happen, and what probably won’t.
Among the most reliable rumors, a few stand out as near certainties. The iPhone Air 2 appears to be getting a second camera, with an Ultra Wide lens joining the existing Main shooter during advanced testing. The Pro models are widely expected to gain variable aperture technology on their 48-megapixel Main cameras, allowing greater control over exposure and depth of field. Color-wise, dummy models have corroborated reports of a Dark Cherry signature finish alongside Light Blue, Silver, and Dark Gray options. Battery upgrades seem likely too, with leaked capacities suggesting the Pro Max could reach around 5,567mAh outside China, paired with a more efficient 2nm A20 Pro chip and LTPO+ display for real-world battery gains. Perhaps the biggest open secret is the foldable itself, consistently described as a book-style device with roughly a 5.5-inch outer screen and 7.8-inch inner display that resembles a small iPad when opened. Price increases also appear all but certain, with analysts estimating the Pro models could jump $200 to start at $1,299 and $1,399 respectively, while the foldable could exceed $2,000.
In the middle tier sit rumors that are plausible but far from guaranteed. A smaller Dynamic Island roughly 35 percent narrower has appeared in prototypes and CAD images, though conflicting reports suggest Apple may delay that change due to Face ID challenges. The foldable may launch in just two understated colors, possibly white or silver paired with something dark like indigo or space gray. There’s also talk of a nearly crease-free inner display reduced to less than 0.15mm deep, though more recent chatter acknowledges some physical crease is likely unavoidable. Even the name remains unsettled, with iPhone Ultra gaining traction but iPhone Fold still lingering as an outside possibility.
Then there are the claims that strain credibility. A single report about a teleconverter system for the Pro cameras comes from a relatively untested leaker with no clear explanation of how it would physically work inside an iPhone. Early talk of abandoning the Dynamic Island entirely for a hole-punch selfie camera has been largely contradicted by subsequent reporting. One leaker’s claim that Apple will downgrade the standard iPhone 18’s display and chip to cut costs conflicts directly with expectations for a 2nm A20 chip and increased RAM across the board. And while an under-display camera on the foldable’s inner screen sounds appealing, multiple signs point to visible hole-punch cameras instead, suggesting the technology simply isn’t ready for prime time this year.
