How To Use Claude’s Reflect Dashboard And Learn When It’s Time To Touch Grass

1 Mins read

While artificial intelligence tools like Claude have become indispensable for productivity, there is a fine line between efficiency and obsession. Recognizing that users can easily fall down a digital rabbit hole, Anthropic has introduced Reflect, a new dashboard tucked away in the settings menu designed to encourage a healthier balance between screen time and real life. Part data summary and part wellness tool, Reflect acts as a mirror for your habits, blending elements of Spotify Wrapped with the utility of Apple’s Screen Time features.

Getting started is straightforward. Users simply need to click their profile photo on the Claude website, enter settings, and select Reflect. Once the report generates, it provides a comprehensive overview of conversation patterns over the last month, though options exist to look back up to a year. Interestingly, the specific number of hours spent chatting remains under wraps for now. According to Ryn Linthicum, Anthropic’s head of wellbeing policy, the company lacked an internal measurement system when development began, meaning the time spent tab currently reads as coming soon.

Despite the lack of precise timers, Reflect offers practical guardrails to keep users grounded. The dashboard allows people to schedule break reminders that act as gentle nudges after fifteen minutes or several hours of continuous use. Additionally, users can establish quiet hours to block off specific windows of time throughout the week—such as dinner hour or late nights—to ensure the AI doesn’t bleed into personal time. While these boundaries are self-imposed and easy to dismiss, they serve as important psychological checkpoints for those prone to burnout.

Beyond managing downtime, Reflect aims to make active time more efficient through an AI fluency section. This area analyzes user behavior and suggests ways to streamline workflows. For instance, if you constantly repeat the same background information across multiple chats, Claude might suggest using the Projects feature to store permanent context. By helping users work smarter rather than longer, Anthropic hopes that people will spend less time staring at a cursor and more time stepping outside for some fresh air.
