Geralt Returns in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Songs of the Past and Remastered

1 Mins read

Geralt of Rivia is preparing for a grand return to the spotlight as CD Projekt Red unveils a comprehensive overhaul of one of the most beloved titles in gaming history. Announced during gamescom Opening Night Live, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered is set to arrive on Xbox Series X|S on September 29. While the core spirit of the original masterpiece remains intact, this version brings the sprawling landscapes of the Continent into the modern era with overhauled textures, revamped lighting, and enhanced ray tracing that promises to make familiar vistas feel fresh once again.

Beyond the visual polish, players can expect a significant shift in how the game actually plays. Combat has been refined for better precision and fluidity, featuring updated animations and dynamic camera movements that pull the player closer into every sword fight. Perhaps most notably, the developers have completely reimagined the skill trees and character progression systems to align with modern RPG expectations, offering more flexibility in how players build their monster hunter. Additional quality of life updates include a transmogrification system for gear customization, expanded photo mode options, and cross platform mod support for those looking to personalize their journey further.

In a generous move for long time fans, the Remastered edition serves as a free upgrade for current owners of The Witcher 3 on Xbox Series X|S. Even more enticing is the fact that players who previously owned only the base game will now receive both the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions at no extra cost. Whether playing via digital libraries or physical discs, users can jump back into Geralt’s shoes with all previous content unlocked and ready to go through Xbox Play Anywhere support across consoles and PCs.

While the remaster provides immediate gratification, the announcement also teased a deeper mystery arriving in 2027 with a brand new expansion titled Songs of the Past. This upcoming chapter takes Geralt to Letten, the ancestral home of his close friend Dandelion. Though initially appearing peaceful, Letten hides a darkness that requires a professional witcher’s touch. Fans have already spotted exciting new additions in early glimpses, including terrifying new monsters and a nostalgic nod to the very first Witcher title in the form of a playable chain weapon designed for superior crowd control.
