Bose is shaking up its entry level lineup with the launch of a second generation version of the QuietComfort noise canceling headphones. While the original model arrived in late 2023, this updated iteration brings several significant quality of life improvements and high end features that were previously reserved for the more expensive Ultra models. Most notably, these headphones now include TrueSpatial immersive audio, which utilizes head tracking to create a fixed soundstage. This means listeners can make music feel as though it is coming from speakers in a room or opt for a theater like experience where dialogue stays centered during movies and podcasts.
Beyond the sonic enhancements, Bose has focused heavily on physical comfort and versatility. The redesigned headband is now easier to adjust, and the control buttons have been repositioned to feel more intuitive during daily use. For those who wear glasses, the company has optimized its six microphone array to better compensate for any gaps in the ear cup seal, ensuring that active noise cancellation remains potent regardless of fit. The upgraded Aware mode also does a better job of reacting to sudden environmental shifts, such as a car driving past, making the transition between silence and surroundings feel more natural.
Technical specifications have received a boost as well, including support for Bluetooth 5.4 and multipoint connectivity for seamless switching between devices. In a welcome move for audiophiles, users can now connect via USB C for lossless audio playback. Battery life holds steady at twenty four hours overall, dropping slightly to eighteen hours when utilizing immersive audio features, though a quick fifteen minute charge provides two and a half hours of power. Users can even continue listening while the device charges over USB C.
The new QuietComfort headphones will be available in five distinct colors ranging from classic black and white smoke to more vibrant choices like eucalyptus green, dewdrop mint, and rosewood mauve. There is a slight price increase over the previous model, with the retail cost moving from 349 dollars up to 359 dollars. Preorders open on August 8th through major retailers and the official Bose website, with shipments expected to begin hitting doorsteps on August 13th.
