Apple is gearing up to make a significant move into the smart home market with a new dedicated hub known as the HomeView. According to reports from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the device is expected to be unveiled during a Welcome Home event on October 13, though customers will likely have to wait until mid-November to actually get their hands on one. Positioned as a companion to the existing HomePod lineup, the HomeView aims to act as a visual command center for the modern household.
Design enthusiasts may find the aesthetic familiar, as the device reportedly mirrors the iconic look of the old iMac G4, featuring a floating screen perched atop a sturdy speaker base. For those who prefer a more permanent installation, Apple is also planning a wall-mountable version with a square base. While the mountable model will stick to classic silver and space gray, the tabletop version will offer more personality with choices of space gray, silver, starlight, and pink.
Under the hood, the HomeView will be powered by the potent A18 chip, ensuring smooth performance for its primary interface: an AI-driven version of Siri. Rather than functioning like a traditional tablet with its own App Store, the hub focuses on voice commands and remote viewing from across a room. Users can expect integrated Apple apps and potentially some flexibility through third party widgets projected directly from their iPhones.
This launch appears to be part of a much larger ecosystem play by Cupertino. Along with the HomeView, Apple is rumored to be refreshing both its Apple TV set top box and the HomePod mini. To ensure these devices have something meaningful to control, Apple has reportedly teamed up with major appliance manufacturers like LG to develop a suite of compatible smart thermostats, doorbells, and locks designed for seamless integration.
