Digital Heist Ends in Prison Terms for Texas Siblings

A pair of brothers from Texas will spend the next decade and a half behind bars following a terrifying home invasion in Minnesota that resulted in the theft of 8 million dollars in cryptocurrency. Raymond Christian Garcia, 24, and Isiah Angelo Garcia, 25, appeared in court on Thursday where they were handed sentences of 15 and 15.5 years respectively. Both men had previously pleaded guilty to federal charges of interference with commerce by robbery during an ordeal that left a local family traumatized.

The nightmare began in September when the siblings ambushed a man outside his residence in Grant, just outside the Twin Cities area. At gunpoint, they forced the victim back into his own home along with his wife and adult son. The attackers kept the family restrained as hostages for several hours, using threats of violence to coerce the father into logging into his digital wallets and transferring millions of dollars in assets to their control.

The cruelty of the crime extended beyond the initial break-in when the brothers discovered more funds were hidden at a remote family cabin located three hours away. While Raymond stayed behind to guard the remaining hostages, Isiah allegedly forced the victim into a vehicle and drove him to the property under armed threat to secure further holdings. This window provided enough opportunity for the victim’s son to secretly contact emergency services via 911.

Although the brothers managed to flee the scene before police arrived, federal authorities eventually tracked them across state lines to Texas. In a statement regarding the sentencing, U.S. Attorney Daniel Rosen described the heist as a brazen and calculated act of violence against an innocent family, ensuring that justice was served through significant prison terms for both perpetrators.
