Vivo’s X Fold 6 accidentally feels like a throwback

1 Mins read

When Vivo first unveiled the X Fold 6 in China back in June, it seemed like just another entry in the crowded foldable market. However, as the device prepares for its global debut, something strange has happened to its appeal. Because industry giants like Apple and Samsung have recently shifted toward shorter, wider designs with their latest offerings, the X Fold 6 suddenly feels like a bit of a throwback. Its dimensions and aspect ratios reflect an older philosophy of foldable design that is quickly becoming a rarity.

The hardware tells a story of traditional proportions. It features a 6.51 inch cover display using the standard twenty to nine aspect ratio common in typical smartphones, which unfolds into an expansive 8.02 inch panel that is nearly square. While functional, some details lag behind the current cutting edge; the screen crease remains noticeably visible compared to its closest competitors, and while its IP59 rating provides solid protection, it doesn’t quite set new benchmarks for durability.

Despite feeling dated in shape, the X Fold 6 makes up for it with raw power and optics. The standout feature is undoubtedly the camera system, boasting a massive two hundred megapixel main sensor that ranks among the largest ever put into a foldable device. This is supported by fifty megapixel telephoto and ultrawide lenses that promise high end performance. Under the hood, a substantial six thousand nine hundred milliampere hour battery powers a custom Super Edition of the MediaTek Dimensity 9500 chipset.

As Vivo begins rolling out the device outside of China, specific pricing and regional availability remain under wraps for now. For those who prioritize photography over following the latest trend in chassis geometry, this phone could be a compelling alternative. If the cameras perform as well on paper as they do in spec sheets, it may prove that being slightly old fashioned in form is worth it for superior function.
