Micron beats on earnings and issues strong guidance as data center revenue jumps 11-fold

1 Mins read

Micron Technology posted stellar quarterly results on Wednesday, comfortably beating analyst expectations as the global hunger for artificial intelligence infrastructure continues to fuel explosive growth. The memory maker reported adjusted earnings per share of 33.42 dollars against a predicted 31.61 dollars, with total revenue climbing to over 54 billion dollars. This represents a staggering increase from just over 11 billion dollars during the same period last year, highlighting a dramatic shift in the semiconductor landscape driven by AI workloads.

The primary engine behind this surge is high bandwidth memory, which is essential for the advanced processors created by industry titans like Nvidia and AMD. As the only U.S. based manufacturer of these specialized chips, Micron has seen its DRAM revenue skyrocket by more than 340 percent in a single year. To keep pace with this relentless demand and combat a worldwide supply crunch, the company is committing 250 billion dollars toward new manufacturing campuses in New York and Idaho. These investments come as Micron works closely with Nvidia on custom implementations to ensure they remain competitive against South Korean rivals Samsung and SK Hynix.

Looking forward, Micron issued aggressive guidance for the upcoming fiscal first quarter, forecasting revenues around 61.5 billion dollars and earnings that exceed current market projections. Financial analysts suggest there are few signs that this lucrative memory cycle will reverse anytime soon, contributing to a stock price that has surged over 500 percent in the past twelve months. However, this rapid expansion hasn’t been without friction; CEO Sanjay Mehrotra recently noted that compensation increases were implemented across the board following labor tensions and strike threats from employees at Taiwanese facilities who sought parity with bonuses seen at competing firms.

Beyond the balance sheet, Micron remains deeply entwined with geopolitical strategy and government relations. Mehrotra recently participated in an AI regulation summit hosted by President Donald Trump and attended a high profile dinner involving Chinese President Xi Jinping. While Micron currently holds a smaller piece of the overall high bandwidth memory market compared to its Asian competitors, its valuation has nevertheless climbed above 1.2 trillion dollars as it positions itself as a critical pillar of American technological sovereignty in the age of generative AI.
