The American stock photography company Shutterstock has bought British celebrity video and picture agency Splash News for an undisclosed sum.

The acquisition gives Shutterstock an archive of more than 27 million images, with 40,000 images uploaded each day from 4,000 photographers.

“Splash has been revered for decades as the best in the business for premium celebrity and entertainment content, and with this acquisition, Shutterstock will own the entertainment category,” Jamie Elden, the chief revenue officer at Shutterstock, said.

Last month, Shutterstock completed the purchase of the stock video, audio and photography marketplace Pond5 for a reported $210 million. The company sells its content to customers including Netflix, Disney, NBC, the BBC, Discovery Channel and The Wall Street Journal.
