3 Mins read

Running a business takes a lot of effort, and money is oftentimes going to be your number one worry.

Normally, when faced with a financial crisis, you may look at taking out a pay day loan. But when it comes to things like paying your energy bills, this probably isn’t going to be an option. However, there are ways that you can reduce your energy bills and stop paying so much each month. So, if you want to save money on your energy bills for your business, keep reading and find out how you can do just that with these simple tips.

Change Suppliers

It may seem simple but changing suppliers can really make a big difference to your monthly energy bills. Each supplier will have a different unit rate that they charge, so you want to look for the ones with the cheapest rate. This will ensure that you pay less each month without making any other changes. It also pays to shop around as you’ll be able to compare all the different tariffs available, and see which ones work best for your budget. Fixed tariffs can be helpful as they lock in the prices for a certain period of time. This can really help you to keep your monthly payments low and the same each month without having to worry about an increase in unit rates.

Take A Hybrid Approach

One of the best ways to save money on your energy bills is to use a lot less of it. You can do this in a number of ways but one method that is tried and tested is taking a hybrid working approach. If your employees aren’t in the office as much and using energy every day, then you’ll be able to drastically cut down on your bills. Even if you allowed everyone to work from home on just Fridays, you’d soon see the difference. So, don’t think that a hybrid approach doesn’t have it’s benefits!

Turn Everything Off

As well as sending your employees home, you also need to make sure that when no one is in the office, that things are turned off properly. Leaving things like computers and lights on overnight is draining your bank account and wasting so much electricity. It’s important that you don’t leave things on standby either, as this doesn’t mean that it’s turned off properly. You want to turn things off, flip the switch off, and unplug them. This is the only true way of saving energy and cutting your bills for the long term.

Fix Drafts

Heating is important in any workplace, but wasting it is going to be detrimental to your energy bills. Make sure that you check for any drafts within your office space and do your best to fix them. Otherwise, you’re putting the heating on only for it to seep outside and let the cold air in. You’ll then have to turn the heating up even more than you normally would, causing you to spend more money. So, spend an hour or so checking for any cracks in windows or gaps under doors and you’ll soon notice the difference in your energy bills once you fix them.

Use Energy Efficient Appliances

As well as switching off appliances, you could also swap out what you currently have for energy efficient ones. These may be things that use less energy to run in the first place, allowing you to save money without even trying. You can also find appliances that will shut off after they’re left for a certain amount of time, so again, this can be great at lowering your bills. Try seeing if there are any green alternatives to the electric appliances that you use, and you’ll definitely see a change in your energy bills.

Look Into Renewable Energy

If you really want to permanently lower your energy bills, why not take a look at investing in renewable energy. You could see if solar panels would be suitable for your work building and then harvest your own energy. Lots of energy suppliers will buy this energy off of you and give you money off your bills, making them even cheaper. You’ll also be doing your bit for the environment too without having to make any changes to the way you work. So, why not make a difference to your finances and the planet with the help of renewable energy.

Saving money for your business can be tricky as it’s not something that happens without a little bit of effort. However, there are some very simple ways that you can lower your energy bills, and these tips show you just how easy they can be to implement. All you need to do is stop wasting energy by turning things off and looking into a hybrid approach, and you’re more than halfway there to saving more money than ever. So, don’t leave it until it’s too late and your bills are sky high. Make the changes now and you’ll be very happy with the savings you see on your next bill!
